What's up with the Bird Flu
3 new cases in Colorado

More Bird Flu…
Bird Flu
Colorado health officials have reported three potential bird flu cases among poultry workers. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment announced these presumptive positive cases after an outbreak at a commercial egg operation. Specimens were sent to the CDC for confirmation.
The workers were culling poultry at a farm in northeast Colorado and showed mild symptoms, including conjunctivitis and respiratory issues. None required hospitalization. State epidemiologists believe these cases are due to direct contact with infected poultry.
The CDC is sending a team to investigate further. They consider the risk to the general public as low. If confirmed, these cases will increase the total U.S. human cases of bird flu to seven. The virus has also affected over 40 cattle herds nationwide, raising concerns about a potential widespread outbreak. A former CDC director has warned that a bird flu pandemic could occur if the virus adapts to human transmission, with a higher mortality rate than COVID-19.
