Salmonella Contamination Prompts Cucumber Recall Across 26 U.S. States and Canada
SunFed Produce recalls cucumbers sold between October and November over potential salmonella risk, affecting multiple U.S. states and Canadian provinces.

Cucumber recall
Cucumbers sold across 26 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces have been recalled due to potential salmonella contamination, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced this week.
SunFed Produce initiated the recall for all sizes of its whole fresh cucumbers, which were sold between October 12 and November 26. The FDA filing, released Thursday, cited concerns that the cucumbers might be contaminated with salmonella.
The affected cucumbers were sold either in bulk cardboard containers labeled "SunFed" or in generic white boxes or black plastic grates, each marked with a sticker showing the grower's name.
SunFed President Craig Slate stated, βAs soon as we became aware of the issue, we took immediate action to protect consumers. We are collaborating with authorities and the involved farm to investigate the potential cause.β

Salmonella infections can lead to symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, and stomach cramps, with onset ranging from six hours to six days after consumption. The illness typically lasts four to seven days, though it can be fatal for vulnerable populations, including young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.
The recall affects cucumbers distributed in the following U.S. states: Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin. They were also shipped to Canadian provinces including Alberta, British Columbia, Calgary, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. The FDA notes that the cucumbers may have been sold at other retail locations as well.
No other products from SunFed Produce are part of this recall.
Consumers are urged to compare their cucumbers with the FDA's provided images and dispose of any affected items. Those unsure whether they have purchased the recalled cucumbers are encouraged to contact their retailer.
This follows a previous salmonella outbreak earlier this year, which sickened over 160 individuals and was linked to cucumbers sold by Fresh Start Produce Sales Inc.
