Former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has called for significant reforms within the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), suggesting that certain departments—particularly the nutrition division—are failing in their duties and should be dismantled. In a Wednesday interview on MSNBC, Kennedy stated that "entire departments" within the FDA need to be removed because they are not adequately fulfilling their responsibilities, especially when it comes to safeguarding children’s health.

Kennedy, who initially campaigned as a Democratic presidential contender before switching to an independent run, endorsed former President Donald Trump in August. With Trump’s victory in the election, Kennedy is now positioned to play a prominent role in the new administration, likely related to healthcare.

In an interview last week, Kennedy revealed that Trump had personally promised him a position in the White House if he won, although the specifics of the role have not been finalized. When asked about the possibility of serving as Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kennedy explained that he and Trump are still discussing the details, noting, "We’re developing a proposal now."

The position of HHS secretary would require Senate confirmation, and while Republicans are expected to hold a Senate majority, it remains uncertain whether Kennedy would secure the necessary votes. There is growing speculation that Kennedy may be offered a position that does not require Senate approval.

However, Howard Lutnick, co-chair of Trump’s transition team, has publicly stated that Kennedy will not be appointed as the head of HHS.

When asked whether he would eliminate any health-related agencies, Kennedy clarified that while he would not seek to dismantle agencies outright, he would focus on rooting out corruption within them. "I can get the corruption out of the agencies," he said, emphasizing his commitment to reform rather than abolition.
