PatientsLikeMe (PLM), a platform dedicated to patient engagement, is unveiling Ella, an AI-powered assistant designed to help women manage their health. Built on the generative AI platform Ema, Ella provides personalized, evidence-based support to women in managing their overall well-being.

As our muscles age, they naturally lose mass, strength, and function – a result of certain muscle fibers shrinking – contributing to fatigue and weakness beginning as early as our 30s. Recent research highlights that the key player in this aging process is our mitochondria, tiny-but-mighty organelles that produce more than 90% of our body’s energy. Importantly, scientists have found a strong link between decreased mitochondrial health and muscle health decline with aging, emphasizing the importance of maintaining these cellular engines.

A new way to support and improve muscle health as we age, Mitopure® by Timeline is clinically shown to meaningfully boost our mitochondrial health to improve muscle strength and endurance, without any change in exercise required.

PLM is a health network that connects patients, enabling them to share experiences and learn from one another’s lived realities. The platform offers resources, tools, and educational materials aimed at empowering individuals to take control of their health.

Ella functions as a personal health assistant, offering tailored advice and resources that simplify complex medical information. The platform customizes its guidance based on a user’s unique health history, background, and cultural context.

In addition to supporting individuals, Ella assists healthcare businesses by improving health outcomes through AI-driven solutions. These include more efficient resource allocation, personalized patient engagement, and the creation of actionable data insights.

Chris Renfro, COO of PLM, explained, "We have a 20-year history of patients sharing their experiences, and what Ella enables us to do is streamline that information into an intuitive interface, helping users easily access the insights and resources they need."

Renfro highlighted the alignment between PLM and Ema's missions, noting that Ella helps patients become more engaged in their healthcare. Amanda Ducach, CEO of Ema, emphasized that Ema's generative AI serves as a foundation for building user interfaces, providing patients with the tools to advocate for themselves with healthcare professionals.

Ducach added that combining PLM's platform with Ema’s AI capabilities helps patients access critical resources, such as information about medications, more effectively. This partnership aims to empower patients by providing the support they need to be active participants in their own care.
