Ike Turner Jr., the son of legendary musicians Ike Turner and Tina Turner, has passed away at the age of 67. According to relatives, he died on Saturday, October 4, in a Los Angeles hospital following complications from kidney failure.

His cousin, Jacqueline Bullock, confirmed the news, remembering him as “more than a cousin — he was like a brother,” reflecting on their shared upbringing in the Turner household. She also revealed that he had been battling severe health issues, including heart problems, and had suffered a stroke in early September.

Musical Roots and Career Behind the Spotlight

Born in 1958 to Ike Turner Sr. and Lorraine Taylor, Ike Jr. was raised by Tina Turner as her own after she married his father. He showed a natural talent for music early on, learning multiple instruments. Initially drawn to drums, he later turned his focus to keyboards, a shift reportedly encouraged by Tina Turner herself.

Beyond performing, Ike Jr. contributed to music from behind the scenes. He co-produced Risin’ With the Blues, his father’s final studio album, which won the 2007 Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album. He also spent time working as a sound engineer, though his time in the role was relatively short.

Despite his musical contributions, his life was not without hardship. He spoke openly in interviews about difficulties in his relationship with Tina Turner later in life, and recounted past abuse from his father. Family tensions and personal struggles, including legal issues, also followed him. In May 2023, just weeks before Tina Turner’s death, he was arrested in Texas on drug-related charges, accused of attempting to ingest narcotics while in custody.

Ike Jr.’s death is another in a series of devastating losses for the Turner family in recent years:

• Tina Turner died in May 2023 at 83.

• Ike Turner Sr. passed away in 2007 at 76 from a cocaine overdose.

• His younger brother, Ronnie Turner, died in December 2022 from complications related to colon cancer.

• Craig Turner, Tina’s eldest son, died by suicide in 2018.
