Gio’s Law Gains Momentum in Congress
What is Gio's Law?

Lawmakers are rallying behind a proposal known as Gio’s Law, designed to ensure that first responders nationwide are equipped with EpiPens. The bill honors Giovanni, a young boy who lost his life to a severe peanut allergy, and seeks to create a federal grant program that would make lifesaving allergy treatments more accessible during emergencies.

Representative Laura Gillen (D‑N.Y.) described the measure as a chance for both chambers of Congress to unite on legislation that directly benefits communities. Giovanni’s mother, Georgina Cornago, spoke on Capitol Hill about her son’s tragic death, recalling the moment she could not locate his EpiPen. For the past decade, she has campaigned for change, meeting other families who have endured similar losses due to anaphylaxis.
Supporters of the bill emphasize the high cost of EpiPens, which can reach $600 per dose, and argue that Gio’s Law would ease financial strain while establishing national training standards for emergency responders. Gillen noted that the measure could help police departments and other agencies afford to place EpiPens in every patrol car, ensuring faster intervention when seconds matter most.
