FDA Warns Recalled Baby Formula Still on Shelves as Botulism Cases Rise
Baby Formula Warning
The Food and Drug Administration has issued an urgent alert that recalled ByHeart infant formula is still being sold in stores nationwide, despite a sweeping recall. Reports indicate the product remains on shelves at major retailers including Walmart, Target, and Kroger, as well as regional chains such as Safeway, Jewel-Osco, Shaw’s, and Star Market.

The recall follows a growing outbreak of infant botulism, with 31 confirmed or suspected cases across 15 states. That figure is up from 23 cases last week, with Idaho and Maine newly reporting illnesses. While no deaths have been reported, all affected infants required hospitalization.
ByHeart voluntarily recalled all of its formula last week after FDA testing revealed contamination. The company’s own safety checks later confirmed the presence of bacteria responsible for botulism. On its website, ByHeart urged parents and caregivers to stop using its products immediately, monitor children for symptoms, and seek medical care if needed.
