Barbados to Host $200M Life Sciences Hub

Export Barbados (BIDC) and Dubai-based EarlyHealth Group (EHG) have signed a Letter of Intent to establish EarlyHealth City Barbados, a $200 million pharmaceutical and life sciences cluster designed to position the island as a regional leader in innovation and manufacturing.

Spanning 45 acres, the project will feature three domes with more than 250,000 square feet of contract manufacturing space, producing oral solids, semi-solids, liquids, and advanced biologics. Facilities will operate under U.S. and EU Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards. EHG has already secured agreements with major international partners, including Bioeq AG, Formycon AG, and Swedish Orphan Biovitrum.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley hailed the initiative as “transformative,” emphasizing its potential to create jobs, build scientific expertise, and serve as a cornerstone of Barbados’ economic future.

Beyond manufacturing, EarlyHealth City will integrate AI-driven cybersecurity infrastructure and a 30,000-square-foot cricket training facility equipped with biomechanics and recovery technology to nurture West Indies fast bowlers.

EHG CEO Dr. Dan A. Renout described the project as “a platform for transformation,” highlighting its role in strengthening supply resilience and connecting the Caribbean to the global pharmaceutical industry. Once complete, the hub will employ more than 1,000 professionals and include wellness amenities, restaurants, and collaborative workspaces.
